HAVANA, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- Senior military officials from Cuba and the
Republic of Congo met here in the Cuban capital to discuss expanding
technical military cooperation, state daily Granma reported Friday.

During the meeting, Chief of the General Staff of Cuba's Revolutionary
Armed Forces (FAR) Alvaro Lopez Miera and his visiting Congolese
counterpart Guy Blanchard Okoi mulled plans to lift cooperation in the
technical military field, according to the daily.

The Congolese military delegation began its official visit on Tuesday,
with Blanchard laying a wreath at a memorial to Cuban independence
heroes Antonio Maceo and his aide Francisco Gomez.

"We came here as brothers and friends to visit the Cuban army,"
Blanchard said at the time, adding that "with my visit the links between
our peoples will be strengthened."

During their stay in the Caribbean island, the Congolese envoys are
scheduled to tour military colleges and sites of historical and cultural
interest.

According to official figures, more than 1,500 young Congolese have
graduated from Cuban universities, and many Cubans work in the African
country, mainly in the fields of healthcare and education.

Cuba and the Republic of Congo established diplomatic ties in 1964.
