Group of Cuban men arrive in Bal Harbour in small boat, reports say
Sun Sentinel staff
Eight men from Cuba arrived on the shore in Bal Harbour before dawn
Tuesday and told officials and reporters they left the island nation at
least ten days ago, according to South Florida news reports.
The group arrived about 3:30 a.m. near Collins Avenue and 98th Street,
according to WFOR-Ch. 4. "It's a wooden vessel, approximately 25 feet,
it appears to be homemade with a small engine," Bal Harbour Police Capt.
Miguel De La Rosa told the station.
De La Rosa said two people on the beach saw the group arrive and
notified authorities.
All of the men appeared relatively healthy. They told officials they got
caught in a storm at sea, docked at an island that could have been in
the Bahamas and then resumed their journey when the storm
passed, WPLG-Ch. 10 reported.
