Million Air Charter, a subsidiary of the Houston-based Million Air
fixed-base operator, has received government approval to fly directly to
Cuba.
Before rules governing air travel between the two countries were
relaxed, it took months to get an exemption from the Office of Foreign
Assets Control to fly privately from the U.S. to Cuba, according to the
news release.
In February, the U.S. and Cuba agreed to restore scheduled air services.
Million Air Charter can now provide charter transportation to Cuba at
any time without applying for specific licenses, as long as passengers
are authorized travelers. Tourism is still not permitted.
"As the U.S. government continues to ease restrictions there, we are
proud we can play a part in encouraging commerce between the two nations
via private business travel," Roger Woolsey, Million Air CEO, said in
the news release.
Million Air Charter joins operators nationwide that can travel through
19 published returning destination airports – including Dallas and
Houston – for direct U.S. flights to and from Cuba.
