Port Canaveral cruise ship rescues Cuban refugees
PORT CANAVERAL, Fla. — The U.S. Coast Guard and the cruise liner Royal
Caribbean rescued seven Cuban refugees who were on a small raft in the
water near the Florida Keys Saturday.
Cruise passengers and crewmembers on the Royal Carribbean Freedom of the
Seas, based out of Port Canaveral, spotted the raft near Key West.
It was the ship's crew who rode out in to the sea in a yellow speed boat
to rescue the starved and dehydrated refugees.
Once they were treated, fed, and clothed, they were released to the
Coast Guard.
They have all been sent back to Cuba, according to the Coast Guard.
